Young Native Activist: Growing Up in Native American Rights Movements

An activist is someone who tries to make changes or raise awareness about political or social issues. As Native Americans, we fight for our rights as the first people of this land. This is 11 year old Aslan’s story. Aslan has been protecting rights since he was just a youngster. This is a perfect book to introduce a unit about autobiographies, youth activism, photography, or leadership.

Author Aslan Tudor, a citizen of the Lipan Apache in Texas. He was ten years old when he published his first book, Young Water Protectors. Aslan has long hair, which is traditional for boys, and he is a grass dancer, drummer, and actor.

Publisher Jason Eaglespeaker is an award-winning author, illustrator, and publisher. Jason, who is both Blackfoot and Duwamish, lives in Nova Scotia, Canada, and focuses on the true stories of Indigenous people and their modern strengths and struggles.
